Kutlug Ataman's semiha b. unplugged, 1997 (film)
In his movie "kutlug ataman's semiha b. unplugged", film-maker Kutlug Ataman puts the viewer in a conflicting situation in which s/he becomes at the same time expected viewer and secret voyeur, attentive listener and superfluous figure of discourse. By stepping into the darkness of the projection room, the viewer steps into Semiha Berksoy's private room. S/he gets very close to her, becomes part of her life and her story.
Semiha Berksoy's portrayal is that of a woman painter living in Istanbul. Her outstanding personality endows the room with a surreal atmosphere. Her aura - a field of attraction and repulsion - drags the viewer into the suggestive events. The personal recollections and even memory itself recede into the background.
