Honoré d'O
*1961, Oudenaarde. Lives in Ghent. Photographic Documentation and Archive of Manifesta 2: Roman Mensing, Münster Script for the treasurer, 1998 (installation) For the entrance hall of the Musée national d'histoire et d'art, Honoré d'O has constructed a voluminous site-specific sculpture integrating uncountable objects and collages made of yellow plastic tubes. Honoré d'O's work is tinged with humour and concerned with extreme situations, while at the same time it can be interpreted as a further development in the open notion of sculpture as it has existed for the past decades. Like the constantly repeated attempts to decode an anagram, Honoré d'O's work repeatedly uses the same elements which the artist keeps arranging and re-arranging. According to the principle of the"all-over", his installation of chairs, tables and plastic tubes spreads over the whole exhibition space. He uses one single work - the work of his lifetime - that he relentlessly keeps presenting either enlarged or in new combinations and dispositions. The visitor can actively participate and, using the mobile elements fixed on the central platform, can make the sculpture move and eventually turn it into a "living sculpture".
