Pierre Huyghe
*1962, Paris. Lives in Paris. Dialogue avec un produit de consommation, 1998 (mixed media) Pierre Huyghe's artistic work chiefly questions the image and its new forms in the electronic and optical media, as well as their relationships with identity and reality. The artist has closely studied film history, and in his recent works strives to find a limit between film and the fine arts as a hybrid and critical means of expression. In "Dialogue avec un produit de consommation" (Dialogue with a consumer product), he filmed a French person sleeping for three hours. The reference to Andy Warhol's famous film "Sleep" is obvious. Still, Pierre Huyghe is mainly concerned with asserting how film aesthetics are engraved in our optical subconscious and hence submit the film image to critical analysis.
