Kristof Kintera
*1973, Prague. Lives in Prague. Photographic Documentation and Archive of Manifesta 2: Roman Mensing, Münster I live with 'it' and 'it' lives with me, 1998 Kristof Kintera presents his mechanical domestic "animal". Using small engines of old household appliances, Kristof Kintera provides the viewer with new organic forms. Even though they comply with ergonomic standards fixed by modern design, they fulfil no function whatsoever. Scattered among everyday objects meant for sale, they nevertheless keep on waiting. The art object does not mingle with the everyday object, but rather distinguishes itself by its non-functional character. The artist thus draws the viewer's attention to those characteristics which are not related to tangible usefulness. Nonetheless the contradictory nature of this domestic "animal" can be perceived, granting it a different kind of identity.
