Elke Krystufek
*1970, Vienna. Lives in Vienna. Photographic Documentation and Archive of Manifesta 2: Roman Mensing, Münster I am your mirror, 1997/98 (photographs, video, work with mirrors by Ken Lum) Using different forms of self-portraits and autobiographical accounts, Elke Krystufek's artistic work examins the present-day status of sexuality, identity, eroticism, pornography, creativity and authorship. "I am your mirror" assembles a few hundred photographs Krystufek has been taking of herself ever since she decided to become an artist. She is a trained painter and invents a new form of self-portrait, directly addressing feminist and politically "incorrect" issues and clichés. For Manifesta 2 her large photographic body will confront the Canadian artist Ken Lum's work with mirrors, an installation Krystufek has personally acquired. The third part of her contribution will consist of a video film projection displaying a self-portrait of her stay in Luxembourg in December 1997.
