The Yugoslav artist Tanja Ostojic is a trained sculptor. In her first performance realised within the framework of the Yugoslav Biennial of Young Artists in 1995, she used marble dust recovered from her former works of sculpture.
On the occasion of Manifesta 2, Tanja Ostojic stages a performance in the elevator of the Musée d'Histoire de la Ville de Luxembourg during which she covers a square surface as well as her own shaved body and head with marble dust. For one hour, she stands on the white square - motionless, statue-like - while the elevator carries her up and down. The video film of this performance is subsequently shown on each floor of the museum, next to the elevator.
