The Ladder , 1998 (mixed media)
Andreas Slominski's work consists of an attempt to enter one of the rooms of the Casino Luxembourg with a ladder held in a horizontal position although the access is much too narrow. The only solution is to cut the outlines of the ladder into the wall . Once the ladder is inside the room, the wall is repaired.
In the line of Slominski's former works, the recording and projecting of this action in the exhibition trigger off a reflection on the instant of production and the reception of an artistic process. The artist's works are often conceived as art works in progress. By their commitment to the action they take into account the "time factor". Accordingly, Andreas Slominski's approach aims at a more precise definition and a broadening of the concept of sculpture.
