Manifesta 1 logoManifesta 1 s'est tenue ý Rotterdam en ÈtÈ 1996. Cette premiËre Èdition, beaucoup discutÈe sur la scËne artistique et qui a rencontrÈ un large Ècho dans la presse internationale, regroupait 75 artistes provenant de 27 pays, rÈunis par 5 curateurs: Rosa MartÌnez, Viktor Misiano, Katalin NÈray, Andrew Renton et Hans-Ulrich Obrist. Douze musÈes ainsi que d'autres institutions et associations culturelles ont participÈ ý cette manifestation, dont la Kunsthal Rotterdam, le MusÈe d'histoire naturelle, l'Institut nÈerlandais d'architecture, le MusÈe Chabot, le Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, l'Institut national de photographie des Pays-Bas et le centre d'art contemporain Witte de With.

Manifesta 1 a ÈtÈ organisÈe par la Foundation European Art Manifestation, dont le bureau exÈcutif Ètait dirigÈ par Hedwig Fijen, sous la tutelle d'un comitÈ national composÈ de personnalitÈs du monde de l'art et de l'industrie nÈerlandais: Joop van Caldenborgh, Geert Dales, Chris Dercon, Marlene Dumas, Rob Scholte, Vincent Vlasblom et Herman Wessels. L'ÈvËnement Ètait parrainÈ par un conseil international qui comptait en son sein Els Barents, RenÈ Block, Henry Meyric Hughes, Svenrobert Lundquist, Anda Rottenberg et Lilijana Stepancic.

FLASH BACK: MANIFESTA 1

Manifesta 1 took place in Rotterdam from 9 June to 19 August 1996. This first exhibition was much talked about in the art world and received wide coverage in the international press. It brought together 75 artists from 27 countries, selected by 5 curators from different parts of Europe. 12 museums as well as other cultural institutions and associations took part in the event.

Manifesta 1 was organised by the Foundation European Art Manifestation. Its executive office was directed by Hedwig Fijen, under the supervision of a National Committee made up of personalities from the Netherlandsí arts and business worlds.
