Manifesta 2

Manifesta 2, the second version of this new European biennial of contemporary art, is to take place in the city of Luxembourg from 28 June to 11 October 1998. The exhibition will bring together young talents from all over Europe and is destined to be one of the major events on the 1998 art calendar.

Three independent art critics have been selected as curators of Manifesta 2: Robert Fleck (Paris/Vienna), Maria Lind (Stockholm) and Barbara Vanderlinden (Brussels). Since April of this year, they have been travelling all over Europe, exploring the art scene. To a large extent, the exhibition will reflect their numerous visits to artists' studios and their contacts with leading art critics and other figures from the cultural scene of the countries visited.

Manifesta 2 is to be an exhibition of contemporary art, international in scope, reflecting the concerns and potential of the new cultural patchwork in Europe at the end of our century. It will take the visitor on a cultural and artistic journey through the different cultural institutions and public spaces of the city of Luxembourg.

Manifesta 2 is co-organised by the Ministry of Culture and the City of Luxembourg under the supervision of the Agence luxembourgeoise d'Action culturelle a.s.b.l.

The executive office of Manifesta 2 has its head office in the Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain. It is in charge of the preparation, the realisation, the course and the technical coordination of the event.

A national committee made up of personalities of the world of culture and politics has been designated to supervise the organisation and the financing of the art manifestation.

An international advisory board gathers personalities and professionnals from the international visual arts scene. As its name indicates, the role of this board is strictly advisory.

An international committee of patronage made up of personalities of the world of culture and politics will lend Manifesta 2 its moral support.
